A+ for animal antics
Children at a school in Esher took a walk on the wild side, with some unusual visitors last week.
Year 5 pupils at Milbourne Lodge School, in Claygate, were delighted when they came face-to-face with a wide variety of exotic animals, including an armadillo, a not-so-smelly skunk, lizards, spiders, snakes, rainforest frogs and even a cockroach. Amongst the most popular visitors were a cuddly chinchilla and a tiny owl.
The pupils, aged 11-12, were treated to an interactive lecture by animal experts from Impeyan Productions, who were on hand to help the children handle and feed the animals, whilst explaining a little about their various traits, habitats and lifestyles.
The pupils’ teacher, Sue Williams said:
“It was an amazing experience for the girls and boys to be able to handle these weird and wonderful creatures. It really brought their project work to life”.
Year 5 children have been studying the evolution of the animal kingdom, how animals move and the importance of animal conservation, so the day’s events were a fitting and rewarding conclusion to their hard work this term.
