Production company offers unique opportunity for public to become involved in new film venture.
London-based film company Explosive Studios is offering members of the public the chance to participate in an innovative scheme that will allow them to act and invest in a new romantic drama.
Young British Asian actor and producer Jameal Ali is the forward-thinking force behind Explosive Studios, and he is excited about his experienced team’s film project Promises Alone. He knows, however, that full-length feature films cannot be made on promises alone. So, in addition to the investors already backing the project, he is giving film fans and aspiring actors the opportunity to get involved. For a fee, from as little as $10, the public can benefit from a range of special post-production perks.
Jameal has a track record of doing things differently, and is keen to break away from stereotypical roles British Asian actors are offered. As well as acting, he has studied film and has directed a number of short films. His most recent project featured Joe Wright (The Soloist, Atonement, Pride and Prejudice) as the executive producer.
Aware of the financial challenges facing independent film makers, Jameal and his team want to ensure the success of Promises Alone and are keen for it to be seen by as many people as possible. To make this happen they are offering an innovative ‘crowd funding’ scheme. A similar initiative helped make the environmental film The Age of Stupid a major box office and critical success, when over 200 individuals and groups got involved and bought shares in the film. Explosive Studios are taking this a step further by offering people who contribute $1000 or more the chance to appear in the film as well.
Among those that have already got involved is Ovi Akpojotor who said: “It's really cool. For only $10 you get to be part of a film. You could even say you helped make it. I think it's a fantastic idea and I've even got small job on the set!"
The film itself is a romantic drama, following the fortunes of Sammy as he starts university and falls in love with Lisa. We follow their story as the relationship blossoms, until a tragic turn of events shatters all that they have built together. Sammy falls back on his friends to aid him through this struggle, but ultimately it is down to him to face his demons alone. Love, loyalty, friendship and grief. Now that sounds like a story worth being part of!
