NAQI HIGHLIGHTS SKIN HEALTH AT DIABETES UK CONFERENCE
Experts from skincare specialist Naqi, will be offering advice and guidance to visitors at this year’s Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference 2011.
Naqi will be officially launching a new range of diabetes skincare at the conference, being held at London’s ExCeL from 30th March - 1st April.
Individuals and health professionals are invited to visit the Naqi stand (A13), to meet the team and learn more about the steps that can be taken to improve skin health, along with receiving information on the common skin problems that can be experienced by those with diabetes.
An Debruyn from Naqi, explains:
“The key to preventing diabetes-related skin problems is to keep diabetes under control. But if you are suffering with skin problems, then there are a number of steps you can take to improve skin health."
"Proper cleansing and moisturising are really important, and so is working to prevent skin from drying out and cracking, as this can easily lead to infections that can potentially cause serious complications.”
The 6 warning signs that skin may be more at risk of infection:
• Has your skin become visibly thicker?
• Has your skin become visibly drier?
• Is your skin shedding?
• Is your skin showing cracks?
• Has your skin become yellower?
• Do small wounds heal slower?
An continued:
“Dry skin is a common occurrence for those with diabetes, as they can often lose more water through urination and usually do not drink enough, which can lead to the skin dehydrating."
"In many cases the dry skin will be worse on the extremities, such as the legs, feet, knees, elbows and hands. This can result in less supple, cracked, dry and damaged skin. It can also become more susceptible to irritations and infection."
“Because a higher blood sugar level causes higher levels of AGEs (Advanced Glycation End-products), diabetes patients often have premature skin ageing. A specialised skincare routine with specific diabetes products can also slow down this process and the appearance of dullness that can sometimes appear, by helping the skin maintain water and suppleness.”
