Cambridge Firm Employs During Hard Times
Cambridge-based S-Tech Insurance Services Ltd has demonstrated its commitment to investing in people by launching a strategic recruitment, training and development programme, to help boost local employment.
The initiative has seen the appointment of three trainee insurance brokers – Jennifer Clarkson, Michael Spalding and Laurence Poulter – all from the Cambridge area.
In addition, Alan Hornby has been recruited as training and development manager, with a wide-ranging remit to design, implement and deliver a full training programme. This will include the three new trainees as well as S-Tech’s entire 60-plus workforce.
Alan, who has over 30 years’ experience in the insurance broking profession, will carry out his role three days a week. This will allow him to continue additional training work for organisations including the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and CII Broker Academy.
S-Tech’s new initiative is in response to an acknowledged shortage of skilled staff in the insurance broking industry. A recent survey conducted by the CII suggests that the shortage of technically skilled workers in the insurance industry is at its lowest for five years.
S-Tech founder and CEO Shaun Walker commented: “We have taken a long term view and recruited three new trainees, all of them university graduates and sixth form college leavers. A structured training and development regime is being put in place in preparation for a future to which S-Tech is looking forward with optimism and confidence.
“The recruitment of Alan, Jennifer, Michael and Laurence is a demonstration of our commitment to the future and confirms our belief in people as being the biggest strength of S-Tech,” he continued.
New recruit, Jennifer Clarkson, said: “At an early stage in my career, it’s good to know that S-Tech is committed to my future training and development needs and value me as a member of the team.”
Another new employee, Laurence Poulter, commented: “Having a structured training and development plan confirms that S-Tech value me as an individual and the contribution I can make to the future of the company.”
