Tracking what people say about you and your business has always been important, but in today's media savvy environment, it is even more essential. One tweet bad mouthing your company could spiral out of control before you even know it, with little more than a few retweets.
The advent of blogs and social media has given a wide platform for people to share whatever feelings they wish. The Internet cannot, and never will, be policed. It's not like a TV station or newspaper where a journalist has to read it, vouch for it, back it up and check it's watertight before publishing – this creates a nightmare for businesses. Lets face it we all have bad days; we all have customers that aren't 100% satisfied...that's life!
Google Alerts is a very simple and effective way to track what is being said about you online. It works much like Google's search engine – you enter your keyword and it will send you emails when it finds that word, with a handy link so you can check it...
